About Us

Manning Coastcare Group (MCCG), established in 1995, is a community-based, not-for-profit Incorporated Association and a Landcare NSW member supporting a network of around 140 individual members who volunteer in six working groups over 40 km of the NSW mid-north coast. Details for these groups are found below. A foundation member of Mid Coast 2 Tops Landcare Connection, MCCG is a Landcare Member Group within this network.

MCCG’s focus is on the conservation of the biodiversity of the coastal habitat and wildlife corridor on public lands owned and managed by Mid Coast Council, along with Crown Reserves and State Parks, between Crowdy Head and Hallidays Point. We are particularly concerned with protecting the littoral rainforests of the area. Remnants of littoral rainforest, an Endangered Ecological Community under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, occur throughout the mid-north coast but are threatened by development, erosion, climate change and sea-level rise. MCCG is developing future climate preparedness and adaptation strategies, in cooperation with MidCoast Council, to help volunteers and the community proactively face these challenges to our coastal environments.

We organise field days and workshops on a range of topics and provide our volunteers with on-going knowledge and skills training for the the control of high priority weeds such as Asparagus and Bitou bush.

In addition to the many hours of restoration work undertaken by our volunteers, where needed we also employ qualified contractors to undertake works, paid for with grant funding. Our funding is mostly from the NSW Government through Landcare NSW and Local Land Services with other grant sources utilised where appropriate.

In 2006 Manning Coastcare was incorporated as Manning Coastcare Group Inc. a not-for-profit legal entity #9885445 under the Associations Incorporation Act of NSW (ABN 73302754263). MCCG is managed by a volunteer committee under the guidelines of its Constitution.

Our Working Groups

Why not join us to help protect our wonderful beaches and littoral rainforest – and to make some new friendships working together outdoors?

Harrington and Crowdy Head Working Group
Convenor: Genevieve - 0412 533 626
Email: genevieve.manningcoastcare@gmail.com

Depending on the weather, the group works from 9 am to 11 am on the first Monday of each month: weeding in the Harrington rainforest; maintaining the nearby sand dune track; or weeding and planting in Crowdy Head’s Joyce Street Reserve. Two hours of weeding is a good workout, so you are welcome to bring a chair and some morning tea for a break.

Old Bar Working Group
Convenor: Anne - 0409 345 161
Email: aerorke@gmail.com

Volunteers work on Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 8 am to 10 am, starting earlier in the summer and taking a break over December/January. The group works in the coastal strip and littoral rainforest from Mud Bishops to Pacific Parade and in adjacent parks, weeding and planting local species. Their latest project is the identification of managed rainforest retreat zones where they can help to preserve littoral rainforest in the face of climate change and future sea level rises.

Wallabi Point Working Group
Convenor: Tony - 0403 054 660
Email: tonywales@optusnet.com.au

The Wallabi Point working group was first started in 2005 and operated until 2012 before taking a hiatus until it reformed in 2018 and remains active with over 20 members. The bushfires of 2019 burnt out all vegetation surrounding the township of Wallabi Point, including over 3.5 hectares of littoral rainforest. Since the fires the group has focused on preventing transformer weeds, such as Asparagus, Lantana and Bitou bush from establishing and degrading our native vegetation and ecosystems. A managed rainforest retreat zone is an ongoing bush regeneration project for the group which works on Thursday mornings from 8 am to 10 am, meeting at the North Wallabi carpark.

Black Head Working Group
Convenors: Peter – 0400 257 656 & Alan - 0413 482 505
Email: geebungl@gmail.com

Formed in 1994 as part of Hallidays Point Landcare working in the area of Diamond Beach, Red Head and Hallidays Point, the group’s focus is on restoration and protection of littoral rainforest. They also work on the beach dunes, wetlands, lagoons, creeks, heathland and park bushland. In 2017 the group became part of Manning Coastcare Group. The group has regular working bees at Black Head on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 am to 11 am.

Diamond Beach Working Group
Convenors: Barb – 0400 257 656 & Warwick
barbricho@gmail.com or warwickandanne@gmail.com

The group has regular working bees at Seascape and Diamond Beach on Fridays from 9 am to 11 am.

Forest Heart Working Group
The groups is not currently seeking new members
Email: coast@midcoast2tops.org.au

The Junior Landcare group was established four years ago by a group of friends and family, led by a school student who was only eleven years old at the time. The group focusses on planting native trees to protect and extend the existing littoral rainforest stand on their site at Seascape, planting an approximate 1,000 trees over the four years.
