Climate Adaptation Workshop 1 - Littoral Rainforest

Littoral Rainforest is a rare, protected ecosystem of dry rainforest that occurs within proximity of the sea, to an elevation of 30m.  Once widespread on the east coast of Australia, its extent and condition has been vastly reduced since colonisation, primarily due to coastal development. Listed as a Threatened Ecological Community at both State and Federal levels, stands of Littoral Rainforest are now small and fragmented, and under enormous ecological pressure from human impacts, weeds and human-induced climate change.

This workshop will be a practical day of learning, led by restoration expert, Peter Dixon, and meteorologist, Graham Creed.  We will touch on the basics of climate science and best practice ecological restoration before heading out into the field to observe the real-world effects of climate change on the Littoral Rainforest at Wallabi Point – including post-fire recovery; coastal erosion; weeds and other human-related impacts. We will discuss how we can safeguard the values of our Coastcare sites and build climate resilience.

You will be given practical restoration tips that support ecosystem functionality and resilience recovery, which you can then apply in your own projects.

This informative workshop is free for all MidCoast2Tops & Hunter Regional Landcare Members, but places are limited.  Non-members are also welcome to attend, but a small booking fee will be charged.
