Climate Adaptation Workshop 3 - Rural Landscapes, Killabakh

Sustainable & biodiverse farms are vital in the MidCoast area, because they restore local soil health, mitigate climate impacts, and protect regional ecosystems. By integrating native vegetation and regenerative practices, these farms act as critical wildlife corridors connecting nearby reserves, such as Ganook, Killabakh and Coxcomb Nature Reserves.  Biodiversity on farms also builds resilience on your property by improving drought tolerance in pastures, supporting soil microbiomes, supporting diverse insect populations and offering shelter to stock – all of which improves on-farm productivity.

This workshop will be a practical day of learning, led by restoration expert, Peter Dixon, and meteorologist, Graham Creed.  We will touch on the basics of climate science and best practice ecological restoration before heading out into the field to observe the real-world effects of climate change on the local Killabakh environment– including post-fire & flood recovery; riverbank erosion; weed infestations and soil moisture management. We will discuss how we can safeguard the values of properties and build climate resilience within both our communities and our land.

You will be given practical restoration tips that support primary productivity and improve ecosystem functionality and resilience recovery, which you can then apply in your own projects.

This informative workshop is free for all MidCoast2Tops and Hunter Regional Landcare Members, but places are limited.  Non-members are also welcome to attend, but a small booking fee will be charged.
