Aquatic Weeds Workshop for World Rivers Day

Celebrate World Rivers Day with our Freshwater Ecology & Aquatic Weed Workshop

Join us for a hands-on, informative day out to celebrate World Rivers Day! We’re teaming up with MidCoast Council and OzFish for an interactive workshop focused on protecting and restoring our beautiful local waterways.

Whether you're a landholder with a creek on your property or just passionate about our local environment, this is a great opportunity to learn practical river-care skills.

When: Sunday, 27th September

Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Where: Starts at a private property on Stewarts River (address provided upon registration), followed by a session at Johns River Hall.

Free lunch will be provided!

What to Expect on the Day:

• Aquatic Weed Control (Stewarts River): We’ll kick off the morning with MidCoast Council’s Biosecurity team. They’ll be running a workshop on how to identify, prevent, and eradicate aquatic weeds.

• Live Biocontrol Demonstration: Watch a demonstration of releasing a biocontrol method on a local dam to tackle a Salvinia infestation—a costly priority weed that can severely impact our region. The team will also be on hand to answer all your questions and provide tailored weed management advice.

• Freshwater Ecology Workshop (Johns River Hall): After the morning session, we’ll head over to Johns River Hall. The experts from OzFish will guide us through practical, everyday methods to monitor waterway health and take care of our local rivers.
