The Volunteer Worker Program

December 31, 2014

The Volunteer Worker Program was undertaken by some 30 people in the over 55 age category as part of a Centrelink program (work-for the dole). They worked 15 hours per week (two days) under a supervisor, targeting Bitou Bush and other select weed species.  Council and Greater Taree City Manning Coastcare funds were also used in this program. The work has been undertaken at three sites:

  • Crowdy Head to Harrington

  • Manning Point/ Old Bar and

  • Hallidays Point.

There was a fourth volunteer group working at the community nursery at Kolodong to supply local provenance plants for specific regeneration projects.
